Julie London definitely had an image as a femme fatale, and nobody really knew if people bought her records for their sexy covers or the music in the songs they contained. Today everyone agrees Julie London was a wonderful vocalist with no other ambition than to sing the rich American songbook as if it was the most natural thing in the world. She put all the seduction of her sensual, almost-veiled timbre into some marvellous songs, and never resorted to any gimmicks; her voice was completetly relaxed, and she gave every note and lyric of these definitively sublime songs a treatment whose troubling beauty hasn't changed with time. The nostalgia remains, and the pleasure of hearing them again is totally renewed.
